“A man keeps himself busy with rebuilding the world, and yet he always gets excited when he stumbles upon something original.”
(Milan Kundera, Laughable Loves, 1969)

The photographic series consists of 72 black and white images that were taken in Slovakia and Austria between 2013-15. The images capture different variations in use of a singular chosen material - stone.

I am exploring the extent to which is physical material world a representation of our relationship with history and our (un)willingness to preserve it. I travel from the city center to the outskirts, discovering situations in which stone serves not just as a decoration, or symbol, but inhabits a special function.

'Lom'/  from Slovak language: Refraction, Rupture, Fold, Break, Quarry.
